White Fused Alumina Powder for Coating
White Fused Alumina (WFA / WA) Powder is made from high-purity industrial alumina, fused and crystallized in an electric arc furnace at over 2000°C. Its main crystalline phase is α-Al₂O₃. It is a high-performance rigid functional filler specially formulated for industrial coatings, featuring ultra-high purity, high whiteness and a full range of fine particle sizes.
- Main Composition: Al₂O₃ ≥ 99%, Fe2O3≤0.05%,Na2O≤0.3%
- Mohs Hardness: 9.0
- True Density: approx. 3.90 g/cm³
- Melting Point: approx. 2250°C, excellent high-temperature resistance and thermal stability
- pH Value: neutral (7~8.5), compatible with water-based, epoxy, polyurethane, acrylic and other mainstream coating systems
- Appearance: pure white powder, no colour interference for light-coloured paints and clear coats
Core Properties & Functions
- Improve wear resistance and surface hardnessActing as a rigid skeleton, it greatly enhances coating hardness, scratch resistance, abrasion resistance and compression resistance, extending the service life of heavy-duty floor coatings, marine topcoats and equipment protective coatings.
- Chemical stability & anti-corrosion weather resistanceAcid & alkali resistant, salt spray resistant, solvent resistant and UV ageing resistant. It densifies the coating structure, reduces porosity, improves waterproof and anti-corrosion performance, and prevents blistering and premature ageing.
- Stable colour & high whitenessFree of dark impurities, resists yellowing and discoloration, ideal for clear topcoats, light decorative coatings and high-gloss finishes.
- Enhance mechanical strength & adhesionAngular particles interlock with resin matrices, improving impact resistance, crack resistance and overall coating bonding performance.
- High temperature resistanceSuitable for high-temperature protective coatings, maintaining structural stability under elevated temperature conditions.
Common Grades & Sizes
- Coarse grades (heavy-duty anti-slip flooring): F120, F240
- Medium micro-powders (general wear-resistant topcoats): W28, W20, W14, W10 (for polyurethane marine coatings, heavy-duty anti-corrosion topcoats)
- Superfine powders (high-gloss clear coats): W7, W5, 800#, 1200#, and finer modified grades
- Standards: GB/T 2478 and relevant international abrasive standards; surface-treated grades available for better dispersion
Typical Applications
- Epoxy & polyurethane heavy-duty floor coatings, anti-slip topcoats
- Marine & offshore heavy-duty anti-corrosion wear-resistant topcoats
- Machinery & engineering equipment protective coatings
- High-temperature resistant coatings, fire retardant coatings
- Automotive refinish paints, clear coats, decorative epoxy coatings
- Inner tank & chemical equipment anti-corrosion wear-resistant linings
