WA – White Fused Alumina
WA is a fused white alumina abrasive powder produced by crushing fused alumina and sorting the particles into a uniform size. The resulting compound has the following characteristics:
- An α‑type corundum crystal configuration
- At least a 96.0% pure aluminum oxide (Al2O3) composition
- A hardness nearly equal to silicon carbide
- A closely controlled particle-size distribution
- A consistent particle shape
These characteristics make WA a superb choice for high-level surface polishing and as a material in items such as:
- Super-finishing precision grindstones
- Super-finishing lapping cloth or paper
- Lapping tape for super-precision surface finishing
- Precision lapping of materials such as metals, quartz crystal, and semiconductor having low tensile strength
Other characteristics of WA include:
- Chemically inert
- Able to bear high temperatures
- Extremely high insulation characteristics
- Very consistent in its reaction to organic matter
- Widely used as a high-grade filler for epoxy-resin insulators
